DOT- Department of Telecommunication, which comes under Ministry of Communications, has given clearance for the 5G trials in India. This clearance by the govt. means that now 5G testing & trials will be held in full swing & in a faster manner than before. The Clearance has been given to 4 major Telecommunication companies & service providers which includes Airtel, Reliance Jio, Vodafone-Idea & MTNL. Surprisingly, BSNL is missing among all these.
Govt of India has allotted 3 bands to these companies, a mid-band (3.2 GHz to 3.67 GHz), millimeter wave band (24.25 GHz to 28.5 GHz) and in Sub-Gigahertz band (700 GHz). Apart from it, companies can also use the already existed 800 MHz, 900 MHz, 1800 MHz & 2500 MHz frequencies for 5G testing.
The Interesting fact is that, the technology that is going to be tested in India is not 5G but 5Gi. 5Gi is an indigenously developed 5G technology & it is verified & approved by The International Telecommunications Union.
Unlike the 4G testing & network which were priorly tested only in urban areas & metro cities, 5G testing will be operated in Rural, Semi-Urban & Urban areas, which means Govt. is planning to launch & provide the 5G service simultaneously to all the areas of the country. But for now, the main focus of 5G testing will be on Tele-medicines, Tele-education & drone related agricultural activities.
As for now, six months of time period has been allotted for the network testing, including 2 months for Equipment purchasing & installation required for testing.
The Govt. believes that 5G network will be 10 time faster than the existing 4G in terms of network speed & 4 times better in terms of spectrum efficiency.
All the four companies will take the help of Telecom Service providers like Ericsson, Samsung, Nokia & manufacturers like C-DOT to execute the testing process successfully. Also, Reliance Jio Infocomm has clarified that it will use its own home made technique in testing.
So, thats all for the development related part of 5G network in India. Now lets talk about why 5G testing is in trend these days?
The answer to this question is that, Bollywood actress Juhi Chawla has filed a petition to stop 5G testing claiming that 5G radiations are harmful for humans, birds & all other creatures. The Hight Court is currently conducting hearings for this petition but no major development has been seen so far.
